Ingredients

Crab Imperial:
1 lb. Phillips Jumbo Lump Crab Meat
1 tsp. parsley
1 tsp. fresh lemon juice
1 egg
1 tsp. Phillips Seafood Seasoning
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
3 oz. mayonnaise
1 tsp. melted butter

Imperial Topping:
3 oz. mayonnaise
1 oz. half & half
½ tsp. Phillips Seafood Seasoning
½ tsp. fresh lemon juice
½ tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

Pinch of paprika
1/4 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

4 ramekins for baking (or empty natural crab shells)

Preparation Instructions

  1. Combine all Crab Imperial ingredients (except for the crab meat) in a medium mixing bowl and whip until smooth.
  2. In a separate mixing bowl, add Phillips crab meat and pour imperial mixture over crab meat.
  3. Blend all ingredients together by tossing very gently in order to avoid breaking delicate crab lump meat.
  4. Place 4+ ounces of the mix into each individual ramekin (or natural crab shell) and bake at 400 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
  5. While the imperials are cooking, combine Imperial Topping ingredients (mayonnaise, half & half, seafood seasoning, lemon juice & Worcestershire sauce) in a medium mixing bowl and whip until smooth.
  6. After imperials are finished baking, remove from oven and switch oven to broil.
  7. Top each ramekin (or natural crab shell) of baked crab imperial with the imperial topping and a pinch of paprika.  Top each crab imperial with a Tbsp. of shredded Cheddar cheese.
  8. Place in broiler to finish off until cheese has melted and imperials start to brown.

You can't go wrong with this traditional mixture. We make stuffed flounders with it.

This recipe is amazing!!! My mom and Dad and I absolutely love crab imperial topped w imperial sauce. I found this recipe and made it for them for their anniversary several years ago, and now they always want it. Its rich and creamy and tastes just like the restaurants(only cheaper!)

This is an awesome recipe! I usually make it to top broiled or grilled chicken for an at home version of Chicken Chesapeake. Tonight I'm going to try topping NY Strip with it. Yum!

Phillips is one of the great crab houses around the Chesapeake Bay. The Bay is the heartland of the Blue Crab, hands down the best eating crab of all time. When we lived in the Bay region, there were four Phillips restaurants within a half hour drive. We made a point of eating a fairly frequent weekend lunch at Phillips for their Crab Cake Sandwich, but that's another story. Suffice it to say that it was the best, if not the only way to eat crab (topped with mustard or Tartar Sauce). Being devoted to Phillips's Crab Cakes, we never had their Crab Imperial, but I am suspicious of this recipe because we had another crab house where we went for Crab Imperial, and it was a knock out. As best as I can reconstruct, their Crab Imperial was like this: melt a load of butter in a pan. Add some Worcestershire Sauce. Stir in the crab. Make a mound of the crab on a metal sheet and put it under the broiler until the crab gets a hint of brown.

I miss the Phillips restaurant in Ocean City, MD, but this makes me miss it a little less. Thanks for the memories and the tasty imperial!
