Phillips Launches Street Carts Concept

Authentic Asian Fare Comes to P Street

Washington D.C. — Street Carts opens its doors to serve authentic Asian fare to the D.C. community on Thursday, June 20, 2019.  Bold ingredients, aromatic spices, and unique combinations are at the forefront of the Street Carts experience. Flavorful bowls, salads and soups can be shared with friends and family or savored solo, served fast to take away or to stay and enjoy in a modern atmosphere filled with exquisite Asian handcarved woodwork.

Street Carts will serve up a range of flavor-packed dishes such as Tom Yum and Tom Kha soups, chilled Laotian minced chicken salad, and Vietnamese shrimp summer rolls with a side of peanut dipping sauce. Or, build a customizable bowl – the combinations are endless. Select a base such as jasmine rice or udon noodles, add in a protein such as grilled chicken, ginger pork or garlic steak, then top it off with a sensational sauce like Malaysian red curry, Singapore black pepper, or spicy coconut & lemongrass.  Housemade juices are pressed daily in the location, alongside housemade fountain beverages such as Mango Jalapeño Lemonade and Lychee Green Tea.

During his decades of travel for his seafood business, founder Steve Phillips developed a passion for the local cuisine prepared by the street cart vendors in towns and cities across Southeast Asia. Working with local chefs, he tried his hand at creating the dishes he craved and uncovering the harmonious blend of flavors that’s key to authentic Asian cuisine. He learned how to achieve that critical balance of salty, sweet, bitter, sour and spicy (the five Asian flavor notes) and capture the lively aromas and tastes he had grown to love during his travels.  The Street Carts culinary team has taken Steve’s vision and developed a fantastic array of fragrant and colorful dishes, perfect for neighbors to share around the table while exploring new flavors together.
